Bhubaneswar: BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi June 8. According to sources, Naveen along with a team from his Council of Ministers would meet Modi to congratulate him for taking over charge as the PM for the second time and press for crucial demands including financial aid to undertake restoration work in the aftermath of Cyclone Fani.

Washington: In a major policy speech Thursday, US President Donald Trump is all set to announce a new proposal to overhaul the country’s immigration policy that would give preference to foreigners based on merit rather than the existing system that gives preference to family ties. It is a move that could end the agonising wait for green cards for hundreds and thousands of Indian professionals. The brainchild of Trump’s son-in-law, Jarred Kushner, the new plan primarily focuses on strengthening border security and revamping the system of green card or legal permanent residency so that people with merit, higher degrees and professional qualifications could get an easy access to the immigration system. As of now, about 66 per cent of the green cards are given to those with family ties and only 12 per cent are based on skills. The Trump administration intends to change this. Naveen Most Eligible to be PM: BJD

Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) vice-president and state minister Surya Narayan Patro Friday said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is most eligible to be the Prime Minister of the country. “The people of India and Odisha want Naveen Patnaik to be the Prime Minister of India. In the past, there was a talk in favour of (former Chief Minister) Biju Patnaik to be the Prime Minister. It would be in Odisha’s interest if Naveen becomes the next Prime Minister,” Patro told media persons here. The statement came just six days before the announcement of the Lok Sabha poll results May 23. With regional parties coming together to play a crucial role in the next government formation, the BJD hopes to gain if no national party gets a majority. The BJD vice-president, however, said that Naveen Patnaik should not be the Prime Minister with the support of the Congress.
