Rivals Target Naveen For ‘Ditching’ Bijepur

Bhubaneswar:  The rival political parties in the state Monday tried to corner Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for allegedly ditching the people of Bijepur Assembly constituency by abdicating the seat after winning it with the support of the voters from the area. Both the state Congress and BJP called the move a pre-planned attempt to counter the saffron party wave in the area. They also claimed that the result of by-election in the constituency will prove whether the voters are happy or not with the Chief Minister’s decision. Andhra CM Hikes Asha Workers’ Salary to Rs 10,000

Amaravati: Fulfilling another poll promise, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy Monday announced a hike in the salaries of Asha workers to Rs 10,000 from the current Rs 3,000. Reddy, who took oath as chief minister May 30, made the announcement at a review meeting at the health department. During the election campaign, YSR Congress Party had promised to increase the salaries of Accredited Social Health Activist (Asha) workers. Jagan, as the chief minister is popularly known, said the government was determined to revamp the medical and health department to improve health facilities in government hospitals. He said as promised in YSRCP manifesto, the government would restore the past glory of 108 ambulance services introduced during former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s regime. Naveen Abdicates Bijepur

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who won two seats in the recently-concluded assembly elections, Sunday decided to leave the Bijepur seat amid speculations about the fate of the two seats he had won simultaneously. In a letter to the Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker, the Chief Minister said he had decided to resign from the Bijepur assembly seat and retain his previously-held Hinjili constituency. “Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had fought and won from two seats simultaneously – Hinjli and Bijepur. He has decided to retain the Hinjli seat and abdicate the Bijepur seat. As the Speaker of the House, it is my duty to inform the Election Commission about this on the next working day,” Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro told reporters Sunday.
