MEERUT : Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched his party’s general election campaign Thursday with a rally in India’s most populous state, promising development with national security in seeking votes for another term. A coalition led by Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is widely expected to retain power in a staggered election beginning April 11, especially given recent tension with old rival Pakistan. “This country has seen governments that only made slogans, but for the first time, they are seeing a decisive government that knows how to demonstrate its resolve,” Modi told the rally in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh state, which has the most members of parliament of all states. Congress announces candidates for 7 Lok Sabha, 20 Assembly seats in Odisha - Orissapost

Bhubaneswar : The Congress announced Friday the names of seven Lok Sabha candidates in Odisha for the upcoming elections. State Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik’s son Navajyoti will be contesting from the Balasore constituency while spokesperson for the party in Odisha, Satya Prakash Nayak is contesting from the Puri seat. The party has also nominated two women candidates among the seven declared for the Lok Sabha polls. Along with the seven Lok Sabha seats, the party has also announced the names of 20 candidates for the Assembly segment. The names of the other candidates are Fakir Mohan Naik (Keonjhar-ST), Madhumita Sethi (Bhadrak-SC), Brig KP SinghDeo (Dhenkanal), Dharanidhar Nayak (Kendrapada), Pratima Mallick (Jagatsinghpur-SC). Kalikesh furnished wrong information in affidavit: BJP, Congress

Bolangir  : Representatives of BJP and Congress Wednesday reached the Collector’s office here and alleged that BJD’s Lok Sabha candidate Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo has furnished incorrect information in his affidavit. Among the eight candidates who filed their nomination papers Tuesday the most prominent are Kalikesh, Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo of BJP and Samarendra Mishra of the Congress. When the scrutiny of nominations papers was carried out Wednesday, representatives of BJP and Congress alleged that Kalikesh’s name figures in two voter identity cards. Bijay Mohaptra returns to BJP | Odisha Political News

Bhubaneswar : Ending all speculation, senior politician Bijay Mohapatra returned Thursday to the BJP. After BJP national vice-president Baijayant Panda and party’s Odisha leader Arun Singh paid a visit to Mohapatra at his Nayapalli residence Thursday morning, political observers were confident that the latter will return to the saffron party. During their visit, BJP president Amit Shah also had a telephonic conversation with Mohapatra and convinced him to return to the party. It is worth mentioning, here that Mohaptra is one of the most prominent and senior politicians in Odisha. Phulbani: Eight candidates are in the fray in Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat after the filing of nominations ended Tuesday. Interestingly, all the three major parties, the BJD, the BJP and the Congress, have fielded new faces here. The polls will be held here April 18. The BJD has fielded educationalist Achyuta Samant, who filed his nomination Monday. Bhubaneswar : Breaking his 30-year-long association with the saffron party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), senior leader Subhas Chouhan joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in the presence of party Supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas, Wednesday. His move comes a day after he resigned from the saffron party to register protest against denial of party ticket to him to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Bargarh seat in Odisha. “Inspired by the ideology of Naveen Patnaik, I joined BJD. I have worked for the service of the people for more than 30 years and will continue to work for them in coming days,” he said. that even permission was not granted to hold the rally in the city. Show-cause notice slapped on Sambit Patra for using Lord Jagannath idol in campaign

Puri : Trouble seems to be mounting for BJP spokesman and party nominee for Puri Lok Sabha seat Sambit Patra who carried an idol of Lord Jagannath in a vehicle during a rally and it has not gone down well with a section of the temple servitors and the Congress. While the Congress lodged a complaint with the state chief electoral officer (CEO) Tuesday saying Mr Patra used Lord Jagannath for political benefit and it is violation of the model code of conduct, a show-cause notice has been served on him. The District Election Officer, Puri has issued the show-cause notice to Patra. The DEO said that even permission was not granted to hold the rally in the city.
